About

Hi, I’m Kirsten, and I’m glad you you’re here. I’m a wife and mom of 3, a chocoholic & carbohydrate lover, runner, weight lifting fan, dabbler of yoga, and travel enthusiast.

I’m a Registered Dietitian based in Fort Mill, SC, and my goal is to show you that healthy eating can be easy and permanent.

As much as technology has improved our lives, the ease of access to all sorts of nutrition information has made it really hard to know what is fact and what is fiction. The Internet is full of nutrition claims, most of them with little scientific support, and many of them detrimental to establishing a lifetime of good health. There is much more to nutrition than whatever current trend is being plugged by celebrities or “nutrition specialists.” Nutrition is about understanding how your body works and what it needs, making peace with food, and creating stress-free (but permanent) habits to help you be the healthiest you.

I can help you tweak what you already know and fill in the blanks with professional guidance and continued support. My goal is to help you establish a healthy relationship with food, take the stress out of healthful eating, and learn to understand your body’s need for nutrition so that you can focus on loving food!

As a Registered Dietitian I will translate scientifically supported facts into easy to understand language for you. I will focus on real food first – always, because that’s how the body works. I support a non-diet approach with realistic and permanent habits to help you reach your long-term goals.

I believe that
Food isn’t good or bad. Nutrition is a continuum.
Choosing health doesn’t have to be complicated.
Nutrition isn’t about depriving ourselves, and it is not extreme.
Life is short. Live it. But live well.

I can help you
Feel healthier, have more energy, and feel less tired.
Lose (or gain) weight and understand how to maintain.
Learn to eat intuitively and understand your body’s needs.
Understand which foods to choose for your entire family.
Fuel properly for athletic training and competition events.
Improve your overall sense of wellbeing by giving your body what it needs.
Meet your nutrition and health goals.

My Educational & Professional Background

I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition (Specialty Dietetics) and followed it with a Masters of Public Health (Specialty Community Health), also from the University of Florida. I completed my Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) supervised practice internship in 2004 and passed the Registration Examination for Dietitians that year. In 2005 I became a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). I have worked in all sorts of settings including clinical, corporate wellness, and private practice. What I’ve learned from each of those experiences is that the key lies in prevention. It’s as simple as that.

My role as mom influences everything I do – but it also means everything I do influences my family. Any parent knows it is not easy managing everyone’s schedules and needs. One thing I want to be able to show people is that living well and honoring our bodies and health is not a burden. It is not “one more thing” to add to the to-do list. It’s the foundation on which the entire puzzle rests. It’s not an afterthought or a project. It is how we are meant to live, every day, always. Once a person makes the mental switch from looking at fueling well and moving as a chore, to yearning for it as the basis of every day life, he won’t look back.

So thanks for being here. I hope you reach out!

Cheers,
Kirsten Screen, MPH, RD, LD
